Prancing Horse Power

Prancing Horse Power

If you wanted to do a bit of supercar  and sportscar spotting last weekend  the stretch of carriageway between Sprucefield and Hillsborough on the afternoon of Sunday 7th September was the place to be. The “Dream Rides” charity event as part of the Hillsborough Oyster Festival has become a popular fixture and there was a wide range of cars of all shapes and sizes to admire and potentially go for a spin in.

The cars with the prancing horse on the bonnet drew many admiring glances – the epitome of Italian style and flair  – and there were plenty of Italian car loving people who were happy to donate their hard earned cash in return for a quick sprint along the carriageway to Hillsborough. The Ferrari’s included a California, 430 and 360 and the unmistakable high pitched noise of their engines as they accelerated through the gears was music to everyone’s ears.

There were of course many other desirable vehicles, each with their own definitive sound. The deep throated rumble of the Mercedes CL 63 AMG or the snap, crackle  and pop of the Mitsubishi Evo alongside the roar and revs from Bentleys, Porsches, M5’s, Audi R8’s Lotus’, Caterhams  and even a Noble all combined to deliver a superb soundtrack.

Obviously despite the performance potential of all the cars the drivers remained within the speed limits, under the watchful eye of the PSNI whose presence in the area was discrete but evident. Flexing its muscle among the supercars was none other than one of our club members cars – Brian Mackey’s Fiat 850 Coupe was spied rubbing bumpers with the big boys!! Check out the selection of photos to see for yourself.
