Cars and coffee…. and a bacon bap!!

Cars and coffee…. and a bacon bap!!

Judging by the weather summer time is trying to make an appearance and what better excuse do you need than some sunshine for another Cars and Coffee gathering of tasty cars and the opportunity to exchange stories about them with their owners.

The venue this time was the Kingfisher Hotel (I didn’t know the Hilton Templepatrick had undergone a re-brand) and by the time I arrived an interesting selection of cars had already gathered and the car chat had well and truly begun.

I was immediately drawn to a stunning Citroen SM (I’m allowed to mention it as it has a Maserati developed engine) – this car boasts a classic shape and has genuine road presence and is guaranteed to turn heads wherever it goes.

David McCalmont and family were there with their immaculate Giulia Quadrifoglio and Alan Kingsbury had brought the Ferrari 308 out for a run. Another eye-catching vehicle was the recently purchased 1973 Alfa Romeo Giulia saloon owned by car fanatic John Busteed. He had always loved the style and driving characteristics of the Giulia (his dad has one) that he had to get one of his own.

An interesting and rare car rumbled into the carpark and heads immediately turned – it was a Ferrari 575 Superamerica driven by a lady called Laura (I think!). Unfortunately I did not get the opportunity to speak to her about her exclusive set of wheels but if she is reading this article or someone who knows her is please encourage her to contact the club via the website – we’d love her to join us on club runs and at car shows that we attend.

Other cars on display were a selection of Porsches, BMWs, Lotus Emira, Lotus Cortina, E-type Jaguar, Jaguar XK120, Jaguar XJS convertible, Ford Mustangs (old and new),  and other Italian delights such as a Fiat Barchetta and an original Fiat 500.

In terms of refreshments we were not short changed – tea and coffee was complemented by bacon baps and traybakes served in the hotel for a modest sum. I could only manage one bacon bap but I know of someone who managed two and a traybake! – that person shall remain nameless (for now!!).

So, another enjoyable morning with a good mix of cars to admire.
