Super Car Sunday at the Boulevard

Super Car Sunday at the Boulevard

It’s the time of the year when there are plenty of car shows and activities to chose from and although NIIMC members did not do a formal club run to Banbridge some of us couldn’t resist the temptation to take a race down to the Boulevard on Sunday 30th June to get a dose of the supercar  scene. And we were not to be disappointed as there was an impressive turnout of exotic metal from the likes of Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, Aston Martin, Porsche, Mercedes, Lotus and McLaren – other marques were available too!!

Big Roy took his Maserati complete with its new brake pads and discs and the McCalmont took their recent acquisition- none other than the Alfa Romeo 156 2.5 Sport Pack 3  – probably as rare as any other car there!!

I arrived fashionably late in my trusty Alfa 159ti but did not seek to display my vehicle in such flashy company. Aaron waited patiently for me in Burger King which was no hardship for him and although he offered me a seat on arrival there was no offer of a bite of his burger or even a skinny fry!!

The Boulevard was well and truly buzzing with car lovers who were keen to get a photo of their favourite supercar or even some video footage of cars leaving the venue and the owners pressing the loud pedal so that the sound of V8s, V10s and V12s filled the air.  It was good to see a mix of modern and modern classics there – who doesn’t admire a Sierra RS Cosworth or a Ford Escort RS Turbo in pristine condition. Aaron’s highlight of the day was when the sales manager from Charles Hurst Maserati offered him the keys to the Maserati Granturismo Coupe Trofeu Primaserie complete with its £25k paint finish and asked him to move it across the carpark. Aaron duly obliged and managed to preserve the special silvery/blue (I am sure Maserati have a fancy name for it!) paintwork – a slip of the pedal could have been an expensive mistake!!

There were so many stunning vehicles there that it is difficult to chose a favourite but one thing I can say without any doubt is that my favourite car was definitely Italian!!
