Ultimate transport playground for big kids!
It was that time of year again when our partners signed our release papers for a few days and authorised our annual cars and culture trip. This time myself, my brother and 6 other intrepid explorers headed off to Germany to indulge in our passion for cars, coupled with a bit of German culture and a few German beers thrown in for good measure!! That’s not to mention the Apfelstrudel and fresh cream/ice cream which was too good to resist in the local coffee shops and bakeries.
I am acutely aware that as Chairman of the NIIMC I need to be mindful of the photos of German cars that I post on our website, for fear of a vote of no confidence by members in my loyalty for Italian cars, which as we all know are the epitome of style with designs that are often imitated but rarely emulated.
For that reason I will not post photos of my visit to the Porsche museum or the Mercedes Benz museum in Stuttgart. I make no apologies however for including a selection of photos from the simply superb Sinsheim Technik Museum which was the equivalent of putting a child in a sweetie shop with every type of sweet or confectionery that you can imagine and watching their eyes light up. Sinsheim is just the same for adult petrol heads and lovers of all things transport related – it really is planes, trains and automobiles under the one roof (although some of the planes were outside!). We spent 5-6 hours wandering round and marvelling at the sheer scale of the museum and the variety and quality of exhibits on show. The manner in which they were displayed was also stunning, with innovation and creativity clearly evident. I have never been to a museum where a Ferrari 512BB and Dino Ferrari are suspended above me. The whole experience was truly breathtaking and a must see if you are ever travelling between Frankfurt and Stuttgart. The on site restaurant is also excellent and reasonably priced – I know that quantity and quality of food which is also good value for money is a major consideration for some members!!
Hopefully the photos will do Sinsheim some justice as a truly excellent facility – I have included the mandatory photos of Italian machinery as well as a selection of some of the other delights on show.
